What is Pilates?
Pilates is a physical fitness system developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century.  Originally called Contrology, Joseph took elements from Eastern and Western cultures including martial arts, gymnastics, boxing, wrestling, and yoga.  While in Europe he worked with military internees and the police, until emigrating to New York in 1926. Joe and his wife, Clara, opened their studio in mid-town Manhattan and worked with a wide-range of clients.

What benefits and/or results will I get from Pilates?
This full-body conditioning regime will strengthen and lengthen the muscles restoring the individual body's appropriate and optimum state.  It will develop core strength, back strength, spinal health, balance, coordination, and proper breathing.  It will increase flexibility (range of motion) and deepen one's body awareness.

Who can do Pilates?
Absolutely anyone can do Pilates and discover its amazing benefits.  Whether you are active, inactive, an athlete, lazy, injured, pre or post-surgery, pre or post-natal, young, elderly, suffering from back pain, frail, skinny, overweight, and everything in-between, you can do Pilates!  It truly is for any "body".

What types of classes are offered?
Pilates lessons are available as privates, duets and/or semi-privates (3-4 people). Semi-privates require previous Pilates experience and pre-approval.
